Project creation in Designer

In this guide, we will show you how to create a project in Designer. We will cover the file structure on disk, how to save the project, and how to restore it from a backup.

When you open the Cognex Designer application, a window for creating a project will appear. Name your project and choose a path for it (this step is important because everything saved will be stored at this location). Then press the ACCEPT button.

After opening the project, save it using the FILE -> SAVE ALL (CTRL+S) button. This will save the current state of the project (it is recommended to save the project regularly).

The project will be saved with the name and path you provided at the beginning. The file will have the .cdp extension.

The .cdp file must have the same name as the project path. You can rename the project (it is recommended to make a copy of the backup file rather than just changing the name).

One disadvantage of Cognex Designer is that it uses binary files, so it is necessary to back them up and change their names periodically to keep track of the changes made in the project.

If you want to use a file received, for example, from a customer, simply move the .cdp file and the Data, Language, and Recipes folders into a folder with the same name as the .cdp file.
